Solar potential in Turkey, province by province
Source: PVGIS v5.2 (European Commission, JRC) · Last updated 2026-08-07
- • Southeastern and Mediterranean provinces lead; Black Sea provinces sit at the lower end.
- • The spread between best and worst province is about 59% — material, but rarely the deciding factor on its own.
- • Figures assume fixed 30° south tilt and 14% system losses; single-axis tracking typically adds output at higher capex.
- • Turkey uses a single grid operator per province — connection capacity, not irradiation, is often the real constraint.

Seasonality: monthly profile
Annual averages hide seasonal swing, which matters for offtake and storage sizing. Example — Antalya, the highest-yield province: peak in Jul at 165 kWh/kWp, trough in Jan at 96 kWh/kWp — a 1.7× swing, with 25.2% of annual output falling in the four winter months.

Frequently asked questions
Which province in Turkey has the highest solar yield?+
According to PVGIS v5.2, Antalya has the highest specific yield at 1,620 kWh/kWp per year, while Rize has the lowest at 1,020 kWh/kWp. The national average across all 81 provinces is 1,420 kWh/kWp/year. A 1 MWp plant in Antalya would generate roughly 1,620 MWh annually.
How much does a 1 MWp solar plant produce in Turkey?+
Between roughly 1,020 MWh (Rize, lowest) and 1,620 MWh (Antalya, highest) per year. At the national average of 1,420 kWh/kWp, a 1 MWp plant produces about 1,420 MWh annually. These are single-point estimates for fixed-tilt systems; actual output depends on module technology, tilt, tracking, soiling and grid curtailment.
What assumptions are behind these figures?+
All values come from PVGIS v5.2 (European Commission, JRC) using each province's administrative centre coordinates, a fixed 30° south-facing tilt and 14% system losses. They are indicative planning figures, not a bankable yield assessment. For a specific site we run a location-based feasibility study with actual coordinates, terrain and grid connection data.
Does lower irradiation mean a project is not viable?+
Not necessarily. Project economics depend on electricity tariffs, self-consumption ratio, land or rooftop cost and grid connection capacity — not on irradiation alone. A rooftop project in a lower-yield province serving high daytime industrial consumption can outperform a higher-yield site with poor offtake.
